2024 Guide License Application

From Kendra Kozlauskos, Charter Program Technician - Michigan DNR

Hello Inland Guides,

Per new requirements which begin March 1, 2024, anyone who is chartering or guiding on inland waters (greater than 5 acres) will be required to obtain an Inland Guide license. There are requirements for obtaining an Inland Guide license, which include having a valid Pilot’s License or USCG Merchant Mariners credentials and having valid certification in first aid/CPR training. Full requirements can be found here: Inland Fishing Guides (michigan.gov)

You can begin the process of getting an Inland Guide license by filling out the application/questionnaire here:FACTS™ Michigan Pre-screening Survey (fisheryfacts.com)

It is a three-year license that costs $150 for residents and $300 for non-residents. Your fee will be waived if you have valid USCG credentials (you will enter these in the application process).

After your application is reviewed you will be sent an email notifying you that you are authorized to get the Inland Guide license online through the MDNR licensing system (links will be provided to the licensing system in the authorization email).

There are reporting requirements associated with the new Inland Guide license. I will be contacting you AFTER you obtain the license to explain reporting and to set up your FACTS reporting account.

Please call me with any questions and I appreciate your cooperation.
